Natroil’s Rose de Mai Absolute Oil (Rosa centifolia)
Short Description
A luxurious, intensely floral absolute distilled from the famed Rose de Mai blossoms—rich, honeyed, and deeply romantic, prized by perfumers for its depth and elegance.
Full Description
Rose de Mai Absolute, also referred to as Rose Maroc, is derived from the delicate petals of Rosa centifolia, a species revered across centuries for its refined fragrance profile and perfumery significance. With over 150 species of rose in existence, only a select few yield aromatic extracts of true distinction—Rose de Mai stands among the most celebrated.
Harvested during the brief blooming season, typically in late spring, the petals are processed to produce an absolute of exceptional olfactory richness. Unlike rose essential oils, which present a lighter and more volatile profile, the absolute offers a full-bodied, deeply nuanced aroma, capturing the true essence of the living flower.
Chemically, Rose de Mai Absolute is characterised by a high concentration of phenyl ethanol (often around 60%), which contributes to its soft, honeyed floral sweetness. This is supported by key constituents such as geraniol, citronellol, nerol, and farnesol, which together create a balanced profile of fresh, green, rosy, and slightly waxy undertones.
The result is a multi-dimensional floral note—lush, velvety, and slightly powdery—making it indispensable in fine fragrance composition. It blends seamlessly into both classic and modern accords, enhancing florals, orientals, and chypre structures with natural depth and tenacity.
